Docking Windows

The main window of Alcyone Ephemeris can holds several child windows:

The Ephemeris Table

The XY-Plot

The Parametric Plot

The 3D-Viewer

The Star Chart

The Time Control Window

The Memo

To manage the child windows Alcyone Ephemeris offers an intuitive docking concept: each child window can be displayed floating, docked, or tabbed.

Docking and tabbing a window

An undocked (floating) window can be docked to other windows (the main window or a child window) by dragging the window's title bar and dropping it over one of the appearing markers. When the window is dropped over the central part of the marker it will be tabbed. A preview of the resulting docking state will be shown when the mouse is moved over the marker. Docked windows are separated by splitters, which can be used to change the window's sizes.

Undocking a window

A docked or tabbed window can be undocked by dragging the window's title bar or by selecting Undock from the contextual menu invoked on the window's title bar. An undocked (floating) window can be  changed in size by dragging its edge or positioned by dragging its title bar.

Examples

The ephemeris window is docked to the main window; the XY-plot window is floating. The XY-plot window is docked on bottom of the main window. Note the appearing buttons right of the window's title bar.

The ephemeris window and the XY-plot window are tabbed (the ephemeris window is selected). Note the tab on bottom of the window.

The ephemeris window and the XY-plot window are tabbed, but now the XY-plot window is selected. Note the tab on bottom of the window.

Both window are floating.

The ephemeris window is tabbed to the floating XY-plot window.
